This paper will employ the concept of self-deception as put forth in twentieth-century existential philosophy to explain the behavior of Job’s three ‘friends’ - Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar - in the face of this apparent moral chaos. I shall also access a number of "trauma studies" based Biblical interpretations to expand our understanding of this theme.</p> <br /> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 10]> <style> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;} </style> <![endif]-->}, number={1}, journal={Cosmos and History: The Journal of Natural and Social Philosophy}, author={Rosner, David J.}, year={2015}, month={Aug.}, pages={285–298} }
