Conferences: The New AI Scare

Nov 3 2017 CIIS, SF, USA 5th meeting of the foundations of mind

Like its counterparts in the 1950's and 1980's, the new scare assures us AI systems will keep us as pets. As it is based like them on 1950's algorithms, participants are asked to consider whether  the new scare is arguably more a symptom of the neo-feudalism that economic liberalism  has morphed into than anything that counters the classical
Lucas/Gödel objections.

Conferences: Celtic metaphysics, madness and geopolitics

Oct 5 2017 CIIS, SF, USA 5th meeting of the international congress of Irish studies (in association with foundations of mind.)

As the UK disintegrates, and  a restive Scotland co-habiting isles that may soon equally  be known as Celtic  with (as of /May 2017) no MP's in Britain, no likelihood of a new government in "Northern Ireland", and no Taoiseach in Ireland, this conference examines  the geopolitics of western Europe. Two subthemes treated are the legacy of the great Benedictine monk Sean O Duinn, an excavator of the Indus Valley influence on the Celtic Christian epics, and the mental hospital gulag in 20th century Ireland, a system so evolved that the "lunatics" even played inter-mural representative Gaelic football.
