Dominique Hecq, Swinburne University

Dominique Hecq grew up in the French-speaking part of Belgium, studying Germanic philology at the University of Liegrave;ge, where she later took an MA in literary translation. In 1985 she won a scholarship to read Australian literature at La Trobe University. Her PhD is on Australian Autobiographical Fiction dealing with artists as exiles. She is the author of The Book of Elsa (a novel), Magic and Mythfits (two collections of stories), The Gaze of Silence and Good Grief (two books of poetry) and two short plays (One Eye Too Many, and Cakes amp; Pains performed in 2004). Noisy Blood is her most recent collection of short stories (2004). Couchgrass, her new collection of poems, is forthcoming (November 2006). Out of bounds, a poetry trilogy is also due to appear later this year. With Russell Grigg and Craig Smith, she co-authored Female Sexuality: The Early Psychoanalytic Controversies and she is currently writing a book on lsquo;Total Newsrsquo; with Carolyne Lee.Stretchmarks of Sun: an autobiographical fragment and HUSH: a memoir of cot death are well under way.She lives in Melbourne with her husband and four boys, and currently lectures in Creative Writing and Psychoanalysis at the University of Melbourne.Books can be found on the following sites:www.papyrus.com.auwww.penfolk.comwww.otherpress.com.auSelected works can be found easily if googled, i.e., `Noisy Bloodrsquo;, `Magicrsquo;, `Saltrsquo; and `The Silence of the Gazersquo;.
